Awful Beautiful Life: When God Shows Up in the Midst of Tragedy by Becky Powell, Katherine Reay

45031721. sy475 Awful Beautiful Life: When God Shows Up in the Midst of Tragedy

by
A gripping story of grace, faith, and triumph for a woman whose world shattered hours after her husband's suicide.
Rebecca Powell faced the unthinkable on May 16, 2013. Her husband Mark called and said, "I've done something terrible." Within hours, she learned that he had taken his own life and, over a period of several years, millions of dollars from friends and colleagues. Everything she believed to be true, the very fiber of her marriage, was called into question. Within a week, rather than planning carpool runs and volunteer fundraisers, she owed almost one hundred creditors millions of dollars and had her own team of ten lawyers. She was also the subject of open FBI, SEC and DOJ investigations-and faced potential criminal charges. And, although she instantly denounced every cent of Mark's $15M in life insurance and promised to repay every penny taken, her lawyers knew that in reality she faced years of court battles and lawsuits, and possible jail time.

The Power of Favor: The Force That Will Take You Where You Can't Go on Your Own by Joel Osteen

43885880The Power of Favor: The Force That Will Take You Where You Can't Go on Your Own

About:
Learn how declaring God's love will bless you with favor and fulfillment in this uplifting book--perfect for anyone who is determined to find success and spiritual inspiration.
God helps you accomplish what you couldn't manage on your own. With His blessings, you stand out in the crowd and get breaks that you didn't deserve. The psalmist said, "God's favor surrounds us like a shield." That means that everywhere you go, you have an advantage, a divine empowerment, and a key to open up the right doors. With Joel's encouragement, you'll see how God's goodness uplifts you every day. He wants you to reach new levels of fulfillment, new levels of increase, new levels of promotion, new levels of victory. You have been called out, set apart, and chosen to live a distinctively favored life.
When you realize you have been marked for blessings, you will feel the force of His favor and overcome challenges that you can't face on your own.

My Thoughts:
The Power of Favor: The Force That Will Take You Where You Can't Go on Your Own by Joel Osteen is a great book about the favor of God in your life. Joel breads positivity and encouragement in this book towards the reader, which is great, especially if you are going through a difficult season in life. This book is all about how God wants to bless His children and while I think Joel takes the power of favor a little too far in the way that he writes, the concept is correct. God does want to bless His kids. He does want to give us favor in our lives. The concept in this book is true, but the methods of how God blesses and gives favor doesn't always look like the way that Joel describes, thus giving the reader a sense of a false perspective. I think this book has some great positive points, but it also has some things to be mindful of when reading.

About the Author:
Joel OsteenRaised in Houston, Texas, with a loving family of seven and world-renowned parents in full-time ministry, Joel Osteen never imagined that he would follow so closely in his father's footsteps. As a young man, his training and interests were behind the scenes in television production though he was close to his father in ministry.

Soul Focus By Melanie Stevenson

Soul Focus By Melanie Stevenson:

If you've picked up Soul Focus, you may be facing significant trials of your own or are well-acquainted with the heartache they bring. It is my prayer that within these pages you'll find comfort and hope as you face your hardship or tackle the mourning process that comes after.
I began writing devotionals after being healed of nearly two years of intense physical pain. Soul Focus is the fruit of that pain. Through various trials, God proved himself faithful, and I discovered that joy and peace can be found during the darkest nights of the soul.
Soul Focus offers daily, life-giving encouragement to help remind you that you're not alone. Journaling pages are included throughout to record personal inspirations and reflections on the path to healing and hope.

My Thoughts:
I really enjoyed this 31 day devotional, especially as it speaks to trials. This book feels like it is very fitting for the season of life I am in. I feel that Melanie is very right on in her writing about pain and needing healing. This devotional has offered me so much encouragement as I look to our savior to heal me. Although this book is small, it isn't simple or for the faint of heart. Don't overlook this book because of its size. This book is jammed packed with truth and I really enjoy it.

They Call Me Mom: 52 Encouraging Devotions for Every Moment

by
When women take on the role of mom, they take on a hundred other titles as well: healer, comforter, chef, teacher, cheerleader--and less flattering jobs such as disciplinarian, ruiner of fun times, and chief worrier. In the middle of juggling all those roles, finding room to spend time alone seeking God can seem insurmountable.

Michelle Medlock Adams is an award-winning journalist and best-selling author, with close to 4 million books sold. Since graduating with a journalism degree from Indiana University, Michelle has written more than 1,500 articles for newspapers, magazines, and websites; helped pen a New York Times Bestseller; written more than 90 books; acted as a TV host for TBN’s “Joy In Our Town”; and served as a blogger for Guideposts. Today, she is co-owner and President of Platinum Literary Services—a premier full-service literary firm—and a speaker at many women’s events and writers conferences across the United States. Michelle is married to her high school sweetheart, Jeff, and they have two daughters, two sons-in-law, two granddaughters and one grandson. When not writing or teaching, she enjoys bass fishing, cheering on the Chicago Cubbies, and rooting for Indiana University Sports teams
