Light from Distant Stars by Shawn Smucker

When Cohen Marah steps over his father's body in the basement embalming room of the family's funeral home, he has no idea that he is stepping into a labyrinth of memory. As the last one to see his father, Cohen is the primary suspect.

Over the next week, Cohen's childhood memories come back in living color. The dramatic events that led to his father being asked to leave his pastoral position. The game of baseball that somehow kept them together. And the two children in the forest who became his friends--and enlisted him in a dark and dangerous undertaking. As the lines blur between what was real and what was imaginary, Cohen is faced with the question he's been avoiding: Did he kill his father?

In Light from Distant Stars, master story weaver Shawn Smucker relays a tale both eerie and enchanting, one that will have you questioning reality and reaching out for what is true, good, and genuine.

My Thoughts:
Shawn Smucker's Book Light from Distant Stars has been on my reading list for sometime, so I was super excited to read this novel. This fiction story does not disappoint! This is my second read by him, but he is an amazing story teller, that I did not anticipate in this story, but loved. You will love the emotions of this story and the tale of family, grace, suspense, faith and forgiveness all in one story. Don't miss this great novel!

Shy, sweet Cecilia Hatherleigh has always been in love with Edward Amherst, the boy next door. Yet he’s never seen her as anything but the quiet girl in the background as he flirts with the other vivacious women of the ton.

When You Need to Move a Mountain: Keys to Praying with Power by Linda Evans Shepherd

42244966When You Need to Move a Mountain: Keys to Praying with Power

There's prayer--and then there's intercessory prayer. What's the difference? How do we know when intercessory prayer is called for? And even if we feel the call to pray boldly for ourselves or others, how do we do it? What do we say? And what response should we expect from God?

In this practical and encouraging book, Linda Evans Shepherd explains what intercessory prayer is, how to pray as an intercessor, and how to experience victory. With chapters devoted to praying for family, others, provision, health, breakthroughs, salvation of loved ones, church, community, country, and more, you'll quickly find the specific help you need to pray for the needs close to your heart. You'll also learn how to develop your own intercessory prayer battle strategy and to celebrate each victory with thanksgiving.

If you're someone with a deeply felt need to pray for others, to bring your burdens and troubles to God, and to see God's clear answers to your prayers, this book is for you.

My Thoughts:
When You Need to Move a Mountain is a book that really helps you with the power of prayer and intercession. This book includes many kinds of prayer, why you need to pray, instructions on how to pray, ways to pray and gifting in prayer.
The chapters include examples of prayers and answers to prayer. I love that it includes scriptures to the prayer. This book is a great tool to help dive deeper into your prayer life or help jump start your prayer life.
