Thirsty for More: Discovering God's Unexpected Blessings in a Desert Season by Allison Allen

38502441Thirsty for More: Discovering God's Unexpected Blessings in a Desert Season

When it comes to our connection with God, we dread "dry seasons," when we feel far from our life-sustaining Creator and redeemer. We want to dwell in lush valleys, not wander in trackless deserts. And yet, during the first three centuries of the church, many men and women purposefully moved into deserts to seek God. They understood something that we have missed: a desert is not a place of vast nothingness, but a place where we can truly experience God's provision, restoration, and intimacy.

Through Scripture and personal stories of her own times of waiting and struggle, Allison Allen offers a fresh perspective for women who dare to believe that God is doing something of eternal value in their dry seasons. She shows how God can use these times in our lives to reveal himself to us, to give us rest, to get our attention, to show us our strength, to experience his blessings, and more. Any woman who has been feeling spiritually sapped will welcome this refreshing message of hope.

My Thoughts:
I love this book! Thirsty for More by Allison Allen is a great book! The truths in this book are vast and noteworthy. We often spend so much time running from desert. Most people do not like heat or pressure. As humans, being refined isn't something we sign up for. Going through the desert is another place you will not find a lot of people willing to go through, but it is necessary if you want to grow in your faith. We need to stop running from the spiritual desert and start running into the arms of Jesus. The desert brings fruit into our lives that our faith journey would not have the capacity to produce otherwise. The battle in the desert is so much sweeter and richer because of the fruit produced. Personally, I found this book to be a huge source of encouragement and strength. Maybe you know someone going through a dry season or you are going through one yourself. If so, pick up a copy of this book! It is a huge encouragement to press on!

My Thoughts:

This NKJV Bible is beautiful. The design, quality and feel of this Bible is top notch. I love how this Bible feels in my hands. The genuine leather edition is by far my favorite because it soft and the feeling of it in my hand makes a difference in how I turn the pages, study the word and spend time in God's word. I really do like this Bible. I also like that this Bible has three different markers where my other Bibles only have one or two. This makes it easy to stay in the Old Testament, New Testament and also do a daily separate study.

The NKJV Spirit Filled Life Bible is in it's third edition and has some upgrades from the previous edition. The font is larger, study portions are in color and many of the study resources are more expanded, which make me just enjoy reading from this Bible even more.

Overall, this Bible is very durable and will be one that will uphold over many years of use. This will be one of the new Bibles that I use and will be a fantastic study Bible to any one's library or as a first time reader. The features are many and the way it explains verse by verse, you'll love this Bible. I give this Bible 5/5 stars! This is a new favorite!

White as Silence, Red as Song by Alessandro D'Avenia

36911793White as Silence, Red as Song

White as Silence, Red as Song is a beautifully written book that requires the reader to think about what they are taking in with each page. This book has made me really question whether this book was for me or not. I liked this book as it made me think. It made me contemplate what I appreciate in life, the simple things, really.

Imagine Heaven Devotional: 100 Reflections to Bring Heaven to Your Life Today by John Burke, Kathy Burke

Imagine Heaven Devotional: 100 Reflections to Bring Heaven to Your Life Today

In 2015, John Burke's Imagine Heaven took the book world by storm, landing on the New York Times bestseller list and selling more than half a million copies. Its exhilarating picture of heaven, drawn from Scripture and illustrated with true stories of near-death experiences, enthralled readers and offered real-life evidence that supported their faith and answered some of their most pressing questions about life after death.

wondered what life would be like after we die. I think we have read passages of scripture about heaven and tried to understand in our minds what it must be like. Imagine Heaven Devotional by John Burke and Kathy Burke has 100 devotions sharing true stories of experiences from those who have experienced heaven through near death experiences.
This devotional is a great one to read as part of your daily Bible reading. Every devotional starts off with a Bible verse and a story, along with time for prayer. I found many of the devotionals to be informative, insightful and imaginative. This is a great devotional to get you out of the daily grind and spark something new in your quiet time with the Lord.  I recommend this devotional.

Fit to Be Tied (Bucklin Family Reunion #2) by Debby Mayne

38372030Fit to Be Tied

(Bucklin Family Reunion #2)

The Bucklin family loves each other too much to stay away. . . but not enough to behave.
Being rich is fine, but when wealth comes from striking oil, it can make a slippery mess for a family who doesn’t know what to do with it. The Bucklin cousins are all together again, and this family reunion is shaping up to be another hot mess.
Coralee falls for the police officer who pulls her over. Sally has finally found a guy, but now she’s not sure a relationship is even worth the bother. No matter how hard Brett tries to avoid trouble, he somehow stumbles right back into the thick of it. And Marybeth and Bucky continue to fumble and bumble as they learn just how to handle being rich.
I read the first book in the series, "High Cotton," earlier this year and I didn't enjoy that book much, but when I had the opportunity to read "Fit to Be Tied," I wanted to give another chance at the Bucklin Family! I am so glad I did! It was amazing! This book was the best. I read it in one sitting. I laughed out loud several times and the characters are so real, that the story came to life.
I do think it is super helpful to read "High Cotton" for this book to make sense. The storyline is told from the same four characters, plus we get to meet some new ones, which I LOVE! I cannot wait to read the third book that will release this spring! This book is one that I highly recommend and I give it 5 stars!

40701771Homespun: Amish and Mennonite Women in Their Own Words

Ever wish you could visit with a group of Amish or Mennonite women over a cup of coffee? In the pages of Homespun, Amish and Plain Mennonite women swap stories and spin yarns while we listen in. Lorilee Craker, bestselling author of Money Secrets of the Amish, collects these personal writings about hospitality, home, grief, joy, and walks with God. Hear from one woman who struggles with feeling inferior to her sister, from another about her longing for a baby, and from a third who accidentally bought stretchy material to sew her husband’s pants. Each woman’s story is a testament to the grace of God and the blessings of community. Behind Amish romance novels and tourist spots and television shows stand real people, with longings and loves just like the rest of us. Every Amish and Mennonite woman has a story. In Homespun, you get to hear some of them.

My Thoughts:
Homespun is a great collection of essays written of faith, love and family by Amish or Mennonite women. This book is simply lovely. I loved how relatable, funny and even the teary moments that this book welcomed as I read it. Each essay made me feel welcomed and felt like a savory journey as I took one essay at a time.
Homespun is wonderful read. It will capture your heart and allow you to slow down, open your heart and renew your faith.

Ours for a Season by Kim Vogel Sawyer

Ours for a Season

An Old Order Mennonite couple's vows and beliefs are challenged in this stirring contemporary novel for fans of Cindy Woodsmall or Shelley Shepherd Gray.

Anthony and Marty Hirschler are part of an Old Order Mennonite community in Pine Hill, Indiana. The couple has grown apart since a doctor confirmed they would never have children. Marty longs to escape the tight-knit area where large families are valued, and the opportunity to do so arises when her childhood friend, Brooke Spalding, resurfaces with the wild idea of rebuilding a ghost town into a resort community. Brooke hires Anthony to help with the construction, drawing the Hirschlers away from Indiana and into her plan, and then finds herself diagnosed with cancer. Moral complications with Brooke's vision for a casino as part of the resort and the discovery of a runaway teenager hiding on the property open up a world neither the Hirschlers nor Brooke had considered before. Will they be able to overcome their challenges and differences to help the ones among them hurting the most.

My Thoughts:
Kim Vogel Sawyer’s newest novel, Ours for a Season, is a inspirational, yet emotional story. This is a book that is just wonderful, yet full of emotions. I don't cry a lot during books, but several times throughout this book, I had tears coming down my face. Ms. Sawyer knows how to bring out the emotions in this particular novel, especially as she draws in such a deep topic into the story and weaves it throughout. Weaving in human trafficking and homeless teenagers makes this story very relatable and also heartbreaking.
Also, the story of weaving in the heartbreak of not being able to conceive a child is also one that is painful and very real. I love that Ms. Sawyer is able to take difficult topics and put them into her books to make them relatable. I found this book to be inspiring and a book that I couldn't stop reading. I highly recommend reading it.

About the Author:
Kim Vogel SawyerAward-winning, bestselling author Kim Vogel Sawyer told her kindergarten teacher that someday people would check out her book in the library. The little-girl dream came true in 2006 with the release of Waiting for Summer's Return. Kim's titles now exceed 1.5 million copies and are available in six different language. A former elementary school teacher, she now enjoys a full-time writing and speaking ministry. Kim's passion lies in writing stories that point the reader to a deeper, more intimate relationship with God. When Kim isn't writing, you'll find her traveling with her retired military hubby, spoiling her granddarlings, petting the cats, quilting, or--as time allows--participating in community theater.
