Hope for the Prodigal: Bringing the Lost, Wandering, and Rebellious Home
by Jim Putman
About:
The statistics are sobering: between 80 and 90 percent of kids who have grown up in the church are leaving the church after age eighteen. Children slipping away into a culture that tells them the Bible isn't true, sin is no big deal, God isn't real, or there are many ways to get into heaven. Whether parents may blame themselves or the culture, the result is the same: lost souls.
But our God specializes in lost souls and the gospel is as powerful as it ever was. With wisdom that comes from personal experience, Jim Putman and his father, Bill Putman, offer brokenhearted parents and loved ones hope for their prodigals. A prodigal son himself, Jim has also found himself in the role of the prodigal's father when his own son rejected the faith. This family's powerful story of restoration, along with solid biblical truths and practical advice, will inspire, motivate, and equip readers to go after their lost sheep with acts of love and service.

My Thoughts:
It isn't a secret that the church is dying. More than ever young people are walking away the from the church and Hope For the Prodigal begins to address the staggering and eye opening statistics that the church needs to do something different or it won't be in existence anymore. The Christian community as a whole is beginning to see the decline and not only is it beginning to see a decline, but a movement of hurt people are on the rise as the Christian community fails to help and love people. Jim and Bill have made such practical sense in Hope for the Prodigal with stories about winning children back to church and ultimately to God. This book will leave you encouraged and with a new vision on how to stay focused with loving those who have gone astray. I think book is for many people, not just for young people. I give this book a 4.5/ 5 stars. Thank you the publisher for providing me a copy. A favorable review was not required.
