Impulsive Snow day #2? Did we make a repeat?

It was a snowday like today, where I got impulsive and sticky finger here, signed us up for Dumbo Double Dare in California! Again, here I find myself with another snowday.. So, the impulsive side of me, of course wanted to register us for another DDD challenge!!! I mean, with all the snow, who doesn't want to start dreaming of warm weather? We have like 6 feet of snow on the ground! DISGUSTING!

Of course, registration is already sold out for DDD, so if you want, You're going to have to run for a charity group to get in on this event. Sadly, we are not making a trip out to California this year. It's not in the budget. We are tackling those student loans!

So, as much as sticky fingers wanted to go and jet off to California Labor Day weekend, we just couldn't do it!  We are planing on doing a RUN Disney race.. We'll just have to wait and see which one it is... :)

For now, all of you who have signed up for DDD, you will have a great run! I can't believe a snow day like this last year, caused me to be so impulsive! But, in retrospect, I wouldn't have it any other way! We earned our C2C! I am so dang proud of that MEDAL!

Q: What medal are you proud of? Are you running DDD? C2C races this year????

2 workout recaps

Usually on Mondays I recap my workouts, but this week I'm going to recap only two.

On Thursday, I met with a trainer at Planet Fitness to discuss some of my running goals, basically she told me that I need to do more weight lifting and lots if AB work. Oh, Joy! My two favorite things,  not!  She gave me a list of things that I need to do in order to reach my goals. I'm excited about it, but change is hard too, so here we go! She also made me aware that my heart rate is not where it should be for my age and I'm not reaching my full potential. Ugh!

My second workout was on Saturday when I was battling this crazy weather!

So, I was suppose to run 6 miles, but that wasn't going to happen. With snowbanks up to my knees, it wasn't going to happen!

Look at all that stinking snow! My legs really hurt today! The back of my knee caps are tender, I can tell it was from my yak tracks and the mountains of snow that I was hiking though. DEFINATELY using different muscle groups!!!

While I was running through some neighborhoods, people were surprised to see someone crazy enough to run! I just waved too them as I ran on by! When Spring comes, running on pavement will be a breeze!!

3 miles finished!

My crazy hair afterwards!!!

All of my running gear needed minus my shoes! I can't wait to put on a pair of shorts, tanktop, lace up a pair of shoes and go for a run, it will be so easy!

Spring is coming soon, thankfully. Today, was another snowday for my district, but I'm part-time, so it wasn't a snowday for me :(
A look from my apartment complex. We are still getting more snow!!  Stop already!!!!!

Q: What is the craziest workout conditions you've endured??

A Promise Kept

I had the opportunity to read and Review "A Promise Kept" by Robin Lee Thatcher. This was my first opportunity to read one of her books. I have heard a lot of great things about her books, so after finishing her book, I wasn't surprised, the rumors are true! This book was great!

Allison had met the man of her dreams, Tony! They fell in love, were engaged and were then expecting a child. I know what you're thinking, TYPICAL chick flick book right? WRONG! I mean, it sounds great! It sounds all mushy and gushy, but it gets deep and real quick!

Their marriage, like most begin to face a circumstance that is difficult and horrific. Tony, her husband, is an alcoholic. She can no longer stand his behavior and gives him an ultimatum, which she thought would save their marriage, but he choose the bottle. He walked out and she clearly believed that God was going to heal their marriage. They go through a divorce and Allison inherits a Cabin in Idaho.
A Promise Kept
The Cabin belongs to her Great Aunt Emma. She discover several of her Aunts journals and begins to read them. As she reads them, she discovers God's grace and his compassion. She learns that to trust God and to "Let go" of her marriage, even when at times she wasn't sure if she could trust him.

The story also throws a twist when her mother insists that another man likes her when she is just recently divorced, I wasn't sure what that was going to be about and where that was going to take Allison.

I'm not going to give much more about this book away, I feel like you have got a good synopsis of the story, I may have already given too much away.

My personal thoughts:

I enjoyed this book. This is one of those books where you see God writing the story even when you don't see it. It's like he is slowly weaving the tapestry into something beautiful, but you can't see the whole scene yet. I love how at the end of the story, the tapestry turns into something beautiful. It is written in small chapters when Allison discovers Emma's journals, we are able to read those entries and then it flips back to Allison. I like the writing style of it. I love the authenticity of Robin Lee Thatcher writing.

I received this book free for my honest opinion. The thoughts and oponions here are my own and I was not compensated for a positive review.

Robin Lee Thatcher is the author of 65+ Novels! Her home is Idaho! To learn more about her, visit her here! To purchase you own copy or visit the authors blog you may also find this website to be very helpful!  Happy READING!

Favorite Wednesdays!!

Here are some of thing I've been enjoying about life lately and my favs for Wednesday!!
Just loved this quote and think it speaks so true to my life!! I've been trying to do these daily.

I've been soaking in Epsom
Salt a lot lately to keep toxins out and keep the germs away from the children I work with. This has also been awesome after some runs!

I've been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables lately, but I've been enjoying lots of Red Apples!!! Do you see something hidden in this picture???

I've also been drinking half of my body weight in ounces in water, daily!!! This Starbucks cup with the straw, has helped  me tremendously. I bring this cup into meetings with me all the time and it helps that it's not big or clunky. Love it. If you're looking to get on track with water, this is awesome!!

Finally, I'm totally enjoying our Runners World Subscription!!! I used to have it, then had to cut back, then found a good deal and re-ordered it!!! I love it and am so glad to have it back again!

Q: What is your favorite thing right now?

Workout recap

Workout Recap:

Monday:
Drew and I headed to Planet Fitness to workout, but the parking lot was slammed, so we knew we weren't even going to get on a machine. We counted it a nice REST day instead.

Tuesday:
2miles on the boring treadmill, where I got in a decent pace. I would really like to stay under a 10 min mile...

Wednesday:
Jillian Michaels Circut Video

Thursday
Walk on the treadmill -30 mins

Friday:
Rest

Saturday:
5 mile Run

I was pretty excited with this run and I probably could have kept going. The conditions completely sucked! It was freezing, I was running on lots of ice and I'm really tired of wearing yaktracks because with the ice, it makes things so unsturdy, but I live in Michigan.. I was excited to make some gain in my mileage. My pace was awful, but we'll keep working on it..

Sunday:
Hill training, got that treadmill to an incline of 15.0 and starting walking the hills.. My calves hurt today, ALOT!!!

I'm noticing not a lot of stretching or yoga is going down, so this week, I'm aiming to get more yoga and stretching in,

Q: What training are you proud of this week?? Maybe this week you needed rest and you're proud of that!!! What accomplishment big or small have you made this past week???

Prepared for a Purpose

"Prepared for a Purpose" is written by Antoinette Tuff. This book is amazing. It's the story of an incredible woman who in the face of great difficulty, stood calm, relied on her faith and was able to keep her entire school safe from what could have been another deadly school shooting.

As 870 students remain on lock down, Antoinette is faced with Michael Hill, a intruder who enters the front of office and states " were gonna die today." This book doesn't just begin here, it also begins with Antoinette facing her own pain as a child, her pain in her marriage and the rejection, hurt and despair she once felt.

This pain and journey allowed her to be courageous in the face of adversity and prepared her for a moment that nothing else could. My favorite quote from this Book:

I highly recommend this book. I read it cover to cover in two hours. It will grip you as you read the story of a woman who pours her heart out and faces extraordinary circumstances and saves the staff and students at Ronald E. McNair Discovery Learning Academy. As a school social worker, this book spoke to my heart in so many ways. Michael Hill is a human, who for whatever reason on that day had lots of anxiety, was clearly aggravated, had some mental health issues and needed someone to love and listen to him. I think we can learn a lot from Antoinette and the way she handled herself and her
personal life.

Thank you to Bethany House for allowing me to review this book. To find out more information on go to www.antoinettetuff.com. You can currently find it on Amazon, Barnes& Nobles or any other fine retailers. I give this book five stars and will pass it on to my colleagues.

Throwback Thursday

I decided to take a review of my weightloss journey since it's throw back Thursday and all!! About 10 years ago, I looked like this...

This is probably the heaviest weight I had ever been. I know I was in between a size 15 - 17 pants and tipping the scales near       or around 190, if not 200. I was a teenager and quite honestly, I don't remember getting on a scale, I just remember being embarrassed when my stomach was over my pants!

I decided I needed to change when I got into college and my weight continued to balloon!
Then my dad and I started to run and train for our first 25k, I've been hooked with running since. I've managed to stay in a size 10 and have kept 50 pounds off!

I'm so thankful of where my running journey has taken me and I've made some awesome friends along the way!

Q: Where did your journey begin? I want to hear your story? Or maybe your story has just begun...

NIV Ragmuffin Bible review

I had the opportunity to review the NIV Ragamuffin Bible hardcover edition. I have a lot of great things to say about this Bible.

The NIV Ragamuffin Bible by Zondervan is a Bible that is designed for the broken hearted or those who feel beat up. It contains both the Old and New Testament. The thing that separates this NIV apart from other BIbles are the moments of reflections that are found throughout the various pages. These reflections are really neat and come in different shapes. Some text boxes are small, while others are quite large. They may contain extensive explanation, but not always. I love how they tie the theme of the chapter into the text and make the Bible come alive. As a reader, it make is easiesr to understand and follow. The only thing I don't like is the fact that this Bible doesn't have maps and that it is in black and white. The Bible is in black and white, and I prefer color, but other than that, I really enjoyed this Bible!

Brennan Manning wrote the reflections in the Ragamffuin Bible and feature his lifetime work.  They are very inspirational and are near to the broken hearted. They are definitely for those who are struggling or who need a boost of encouragement. I think this Bible can be meant for anyone, but it defiantly targets a specific person or has the potential to do so. If you're looking to encourage someone who is facing something very difficult, I highly recommend this Bible. I will be donating this Bible to my churches prison ministry because I feel that it would be highly useful and would be encouraging to the inmates!
Thank you to Zondervan and The B&B Media Group for allowing me to review this awesome Bible! I was not compensated for a positive review.

Question: What is your favorite Bible translation?

Treadmill hater

That is not a pretty face!  I hate the hamster wheel as I call it, better known as the treadmill! It's so boring! The most I can run is one mile or some splits and then I'm Peace out Girlscout!

I had a good mile in and I was done. Mentally, I was done, shut down and ready to go home. What in the world? Why do I hate the treadmill? I've been trying to diagnosis myself all day to figure out what's going on.7

Am I afraid of success or am I simply bored? I don't know the answer! I'm trying to work on speed! Help!

Q: Do you enjoy the treadmill? What gets you through???

Weekly Recap and a few others

Workout Recap for the week:

Monday:
30 mins weights /ABS
2x .25 treadmill repeats

Tuesday:
Scrapping and removing the snow off my car
30min yoga session

Wednesday:
Rest

Thursday:
2 mile Walk

Friday:
Rest

Saturday:
2.5 mile run

Saturdays Run was pretty difficult and I know it doesn't compare to the humidity to many of you are running in, nor does it even cover the distance, but I'm slowly getting back into running and trying to recover after enduring 4 medication changes in the past 7 months! Talk about jacking up your body!

This was the sloppy, sloshy, icy and soaking wet pavement. My shoes were soaked by the end of my run.
It actually hit 40 degrees here too! It was great that I didn't have to wear a full coat or even mittens. My speed started out fast, but quickly diminished when I had no choice several times, but to slow my pace down or brake my ankle! Irritating!!!

Seriously, you don't even understand how awesome it was not to have to wear a winter running coat!!

Sunday,I set out and decided to start a training calendar for a few races that I have my eye on . You see, I am old fashioned and I love calendars, I hate using my phone to map out my running plans/ training.

The one thing I need to work on is speed, stretching and strength training. I have built that in. I also pray for better weather!

Today, I actually broke out my capris! It was beautiful!!!! My car read 42 degrees!! That's warm in the mitten!

Q: What is your best advice for Speed training??

Trip down Run Disney Memory Lane

It's no secret that I love RunDisney, Anything! I first experienced the magic last year when we were down there for marathon weekend.

Any how, wow did they ever did Dopey good this year! I'm impressed with all the love and attention it's getting on twitter and Facebook. I wish I was down there enjoying the fun..

The shoes, I totally think are so fun, but I'm even more in LOVE with this Dooney & Bourke tote bag!! Please tell me y'all are buying one!! I really, really want one, but refuse to buy it on ebay, especially when I could get my DVC discount. I'm sure I can live without it, but it's so darn cute.

Enough rambling about the tote, my husband said "no" and that would cost almost half of one of our of entries into "Goofy." So dang cute though! When I find that money, tree! I'm going rouge for Run Disney!

Anyways, I thought it would be fun to take a trip down memory lane, so I pulled up our " First Marathon  video." Take a trip back in time with me.. Click on the video for a little and see the magic yourself!

Makes me cry every-time!!! Can't believe how far I've come in running, in life and in my journey to knowing that I can over-come anything.. The journey will continue!

For the rest of you who are currently down there, enjoy yourselves!!!! Much Disney love to ya'll!!

Q: Any Run Disney races on your bucketlist? Did I ask this question already?

Running and Health Goals

Running Goals:

Yep, I think we're going "Goofy" folks!

I'm pretty sure my husband said never a full again, but maybe for "Goofy." So, when registration opens, all of your Run Disney nuts, better be tweeting me so I don't miss registration like I almost did with DDD. And 2015 is the year to do it!

I think we will not be participating in any Run Disney Race events for 2014. I know a lot of people who really want to experience them and as much as we would love to do them and every single one of them, IT'S quite a financial EXPENSE traveling all the time. How do you people do it?

I'm excited to step out a little and try some other races, but ya never know. I may get the bug and sign us up for races.. stay tuned on this goal...

Halfies:

I also plan to participate in a couple of half marathons, just not sure which ones yet. The weather is so yuckie here. I can run more than 3 miles on the treadmill, so, let's hope it gets better so I can get some longer runs in.

Speed Drills
In addition, I'm working on speed drills and I HATE it with a passion, but I want to improve my time. The treadmill is the beast to do it, so I'm on there a lot lately. I'm not concerned with mileage, although that's coming. Right now, I'm trying to find a sustainable and obtainable pace that I withhold for a long duration. So, that means playing with the treadmill speed, doing different repeats and keeping track of my data.

Stretching:

I will be stretching a lot more! I'm ready to kick my PF in the you know where! I'm tired of IT band issues and I just need to dedicate 15 minutes of stretching daily. It just needs to become routine!

Health goals:

Use face cream, daily!! I can see the stress lines and wrinkles forming! So, NOT cool!!!!!!

Muscle, not Fat :

I am also working towards gaining more muscle. I use to want to weigh less, but actually, I weigh less now and my close fit tighter than they did last year when I weighed more.. I can tell because of muscle mass. I was much more leaner.. Need to get leaner!

H2O:

I also am working towards drinking half of my body water in weight daily, so that equals 75oz of water daily. Some days I get it, other days, its awful and I can't hit it. I'm trying each day.

Cleaner eating:
Last year, I cut out Diet soda and it has done wonders for my waist line. I now only drink Sprite and that's rare! Soda is a treat.

I am working towards cleaner eating and eating more nutritious foods, which means consulting cookbooks!

Q: Any big races on your bucket list for 2014??
