Workout Re-cap

Happy Easter! I hope everyone has a great day celebrating with family members or loved ones. This day is important to me and my faith. Drew and I headed to church this morning and then will spend some time with his family.

After lunch, he will head to work and I will spend some time with Max, the dog we are watching over Spring Break!

Here is a re-cap of my workouts this week!

The week started out great, but didn't end so well.

Sunday:  1 mile on the treadmill, 30 minutes on Elliptical, 20 minutes biking

Monday: 1 hour Cross Training Group- Circuit Training, Cardio...

Tuesday: 3 Mile Run 29.15

Wednesday: 45 Minute Yoga Class

Thursday: Rest- My hamstrings were bugging me...

Friday: My hamstrings still were not good.

Saturday:  Still very sore hamstrings.. No amount of stretching could get them better...

The end of the week was a huge struggle for me. No amount of resting, stretching or foam rolling was going to help the pain in my hamstrings. I decided I just need to break.. It totally sucked and wasn't helping my weight loss plan.. I am happy to be back at the same weight I was three weeks ago before my 8 pound gain, but I need to keep working at it.. I need the weight to come off..

This week, I am very proud of my 3 mile run.. I had a 9:40 minute mile on the first mile.. I was hauling.. I need to keep working at my pace....

Question: What are YOU proud of this week???

5 Things I've been Loving this week

My job has been crazy nuts.. Crazy doesn't even begin to describe the stress I've been going through.. Mental health is no joke and when it comes to children, I wanna save them all... Sigh..

Here are my favorite 5 Things this week!! It's the small things people!

1) I've been listening to Wishes and SpectroMagic on Cd every night.. It helps me fall asleep and dreaming of my happy place, Disney World!

Product DetailsProduct Details

2) I've finished reading "The Chance" by Karen Kingsbury in less than 3 hours! It's that good of a book. Probably my second favorite book of hers!

The Chance: A Novel

Here is a brief review for those of you who might be interested in this book. Ellie and Nolan are two teenagers who live in Georgia. When Ellie is forced to move to California because her mother was pregnant by another man who wasn't her father, the family was separated and Ellie had to say goodbye to her best friend, Nolan. The two parts ways at an ancient oak tree where they wrote letters to one another and promised to return 11 years later. Years later, Ellie has a daughter and catches glances of Nolan as a professional basketball player, but will the two ever have a chance to meet back at the oak tree where it began and read their letters to one another? Will God provide a way where one doesn't seem possible??

3) I have never watched Peter Cottontail, but when it was on sale at Hallmark for $5, my husband begged me to buy it.. He wanted to relive his childhood, so I said sure.. I had never seen it.. Wow, children's movies were so different then. The creators of this movie were the ones who created Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. This will be a classic and a new Easter Tradition.

4) This cute Easter bunny my husband bought me.. Isn't he so stinking cute? I love it!!

Photo: Drew bought me the cutest bunny ever, he's a keeper!

5) I never thought I would I want to train with a running group or even a group for that matter.. I always been the go at your own pace kind of girl and working out with others really intimidates me until as of late.

The workouts are paying off and evening though I haven't been running as much, I can tell my body is getting so much stronger and I'm pushing myself so much harder!!

My husband jokes that he should weight lift with my legs because they are beast! He is funny..

Question: What are the things you're loving this week? How do you celebrate Easter? Any Easter traditions?

The House that Love Built

Beth Wiseman is probably best known for some of her Amish fiction books. I have read some other books by her. She is not my favorite author, but this book proved to me that she can write about books in different settings and I can enjoy them.

"The House that Love Built" is an uplifting and encouraging story that I could not put down. I read this book very fast and I couldn't put it down. The story is set in a small town of Smithville, Texas. Brooke Holloway is struggling to pick up the pieces after being a widow. She is trying to support her two young children by running the family hardware store.

She doesn't have time to think about the possibility of finding love or a relationship. Then a stranger buys the old Hadley mansion and Brooke is curious to find out about the owner. Owen is trying to move on with his life after a difficult divorce with his ex-wife who cheated on him. As Owen tries to move on with his life, will Brooke be the person he is looking for or will Owen go back to his ex-wife? Will Brooke realize that she is just trying to replace her late husband or will she find genuine love?

I liked this book because I didn't have to think.. Sometimes, I just want to read a good book and leave reality. This book did that, but I left feeling very encouraged after this book. I liked the content of this story and felt that I could relate to the characters. It was a very quick read for me!

I received this book complimentary from the publisher. These thoughts are my own.

Workout Reviews

Since I have been dealing with Plantar Faciitis, I have been trying to cut down my running significantly, which SUCKS! I'm not gonna even lie or pretend to mention that I love the gym.

I will say, the weather has been awfully crappy and I am so glad I haven't had to "train" for anything in these conditions.. With that said, I spent a good majority of my time in the gym over the past week.

Photo: Killed some speed workouts on the treadmill..

Sunday : 1 hr Elliptical

Monday: 1 hr Elliptical, Cross Training group- Jillian Michael Total Abs

Tuesday: Conferences, no workout.

Wednesday: Dr. Appt- No workout

Thursday: Rest- Just not feeling myself.

Friday: Cross training- Elliptical 1hr, Walking- 30 minutes

Saturday: Elliptical - 30 minutes, 20 minutes walking, 20 minutes biking

As I reflect on my workouts, I'm very proud of myself. I dropped 1.8 lbs from my big 8 pound gain, so I am happy to see that slowly coming off..  I am noticing a lot of cardio, from this past week, so I need to add more weight lifting this week.

Working out at the gym has allowed me to read several books. I have finished 3 books this week! I can't wait to get the reviews out on a few of these, but for today, I am going to tell you about this awesome author, Craig Croeschel. He is the author of Wierd, Soul Detox, Christian Atheist and his newest title "Altar Ego."

I love his style of writing and he has a great sense of  humor. I feel like I am sitting down with an old friend who is genuine about his faith and is honest about his own humanity.. I love it.

In this book, Craig call us to think about how we can put our Ego's at the Altar to serve Christ. He talks about praying with people in the aisle of Walmart and how we should pray Boldly and believe that God is going to answer our prayers. He talks about how we should be obedient. If God calls us to pray with someone in Walmart or anywhere else or tells us to do something, we should listen and put our ego aside.

His book brings solid truth. It's not your feel good kinda book, but a real and honest look at laying our life down for our faith. Craig is becoming one of my favorite authors to read.. This gets 5 stars for me!

Question: How were your workouts this week? Any weight loss? Any changes you're noticing in yourself?

Oui, Oui

If you're a Disney Freak, like I am.. I've been hearing some interesting Disney Rumors.. You may have already heard about this or maybe you haven't, I don't know, but I am pretty excited about this!

RunDisney is considering hosting a Half Marathon in Paris, France in the fall of 2014!! BAM!

Rumor has it, it will be sometime between September and November of 2014. The Disney Land Paris Half Marathon would run though Disney Land Paris and the Disney Village.

I heard about this possibility in August, but now that the year 2014 has been rumoring around and that it will be in the fall, I think this is going to be a for sure thing or at least I am hoping..

The more I got thinking about this, the more I believe Disney could totally market this race. Can you imagine if you they did a coast 2 coast with continent 2 continent medal and a 3rd medal for doing all 3 races in 1 year?? I think Run Disney should do that! Who wouldn't want all that bling??

I'm hearing the Half Marathon price would cost under $100 and a package would be offered with hotel and theme park tickets would be around $1000.. I guess this will depend on how many nights in a hotel and how many days at the theme parks.. I'm thinking airfare is going to break the bank, but we'll see what happens..

Question: Do you think this rumor is true? If Disney does come through, will you go???

Showering a Bride!

Happy Tuesday!

Did ya'll have a great weekend??
I sure did!

Despite being sick, I had an opportunity to head over to Port Huron, Michigan to attend my soon to be sister-in-laws bridal shower! It was absolutely exquisite!

These beautiful centerpieces were hand made and will be used at the wedding.. The wedding is going to have a nature theme to it, so these center pieces will be perfect!

The four girls! It's great! Two red heads and a brown head!

 The three sisters..

We had like 8 choices of cupcakes and they were so hard to choose from.. I chose a strawberry yellow cupcake. It was delicious and I wanted to eat another one, but I knew it was not going to help my weight loss goals, so I decided not to eat another.

I sure did enjoy it though! YUM!!!!!

The bride is opening her gifts and she happened to get a Michigan cutting board in the shape of Michigan!

We had a lot of fun and played several games! The bride got some sweet stuff and seemed to enjoy herself! What a great time! I loved visiting the other side of the mitten.. Port Huron is a great little place to visit!

Overall, we had a great weekend and are gearing up for another Bridal shower coming in May..

So, I need some help!

Question: What was your favorite wedding gift you received?  If you're not married no worries! What has been a favorite game you have a played at a Bridal or Baby shower?? I need HELP!

Blogger Hiatus

Happy St. Patrick's Day!!

I am sorry that I've been on a little bit of a blogger hiatus this week! I didn't plan on this, but the week was kinda nuts.

It started with not feeling well last week Sunday and that set the tone for the rest of the week. I was a having a lot of stomach pain that was not getting better and pain in other areas. Ibuprofen was helping, but didn't make the pain subside enough for me to feel comfortable.

I went to the doctor on Tuesday where they were concerned about appendicitis and sent me for an ultrasound. The ultrasounds all came back negative and the pain continues to happen.. Sigh.. I am sure I will be headed back tomorrow..

Also, I'm not sure if I'm picking up a cold, but a lot phlegm is coming up. My poor husband is sick too..

I've got a lot of catching up to do and will in the days to follow let you know what I've been reading and doing..

For the week: My workouts were minimal.

Monday: 1 hour training group.
Tuesday: Nothing
Wednesday: Nothing
Thursday: Nothing
Friday: Nothing
Saturday: Nothing
Sunday: 1hour Elliptical, 30 mins treadmill walking

This afternoon, I've spent time working out, cleaning, blogging and doing a Bible Study. My hubby had to work :(

Question: How are you celebrating St. Patty's Day?

Stress Affects

We all have it in our life. Maybe it's that co-worker that gets your blood boiling or the never ending paperwork? Maybe you feel stressed about your financial status or are always taking care of the house and the family?

Stress is our bodies response to anything that makes us feel upset or threatens your balance. Stress can be helpful when it requires us to stay focused and alert. It can be helpful during an emergencies or when one senses danger, our bodies reaction is "fight or flight."

However, at some point, stress is very harmful to the body and cause damage to one's health, relationships, mental health and quality of life.

The importance of this post is to help you recognize stress earlier on and do something about it before it affects your quality of life.

How do you recognize stress is affecting your quality of life?
We all respond to stress differently. Some of us many have physical symptoms, others may have more emotional responses.

My personal signs of stress:

-Not sleeping
-upset stomach
-flushed cheeks
- poor attitude
-angered easily
-shut down
- not enjoying usual activities.
- pacing
-chewing my finger nails (worse habit)

These are some of the beginning signs of stress for me, make a mental list of your bodies response to stress.

Stress can be so harmful on the body. If you're stressed over a situation, busy schedule or argument,  your body reacts strongly and the more it does, your body is "on" and it can be difficult to turn it off. Long term, this exposes your body to serious health problems and can even re-wire your brain.

Serious Health problems of stress:

-Weakened Immune Systems
-Autoimmune Diseases
-Sleep Disorders
-Digestive Disorders
-Heart Problems
-Panic Disorders
-Sexual Dysfunction
-Addictions (Alcoholism, Drugs, gambling, overeating)

If stress is a serious problem, how do we manage it?

Tips and Techniques to managing stress:

1) Identify potential stressors before hand.
2) Have an attack plan on how to handle them.
3) Manage ways to cope.

Ways to handle stress:

- Read a book
-Take a warm bath or hot shower
-light some candles
-create a relaxing environment or room in your home.
- exercise
- Aim for 8 hours of sleep
-Drink 6-8 glasses of water daily.
-Take a yoga class
- Take a walk
-Play with your furry friend
-Deep Breathing techniques
- Make time for hobbies
-Take up art or a craft
-Manage your time
-Try to remain positive ( I keep uplifting quotes around my office)
-Create boundaries
-Say "no" to things
-If your weekly schedule is crammed, find some holes and fill them in with "you" time.
-Laugh- humor is good for the soul.
-Spend time with people who fill your bucket, get rid of the naysayers
-Avoid caffeine, drinking and other addictive behaviors to dealing with stress.
-Set daily "you" time if possible.
-Go away for a weekend getaway.

Learning how to identify stress, coping and relaxing, will decrease the cortisol hormone that is released within your body when you're stressed. It will help you live a more satisfied, fulfilled and healthy life.

Question: What are your coping strategies to dealing with stress?? Are you good with stress managment?

As it is National Social Worker month, I feel compelled to take care of my runner friends out there! Be happy, stay health and live the best life!

YAHOO!! The school social worker who was on maternity leave is NOT coming back! YES!!! Big sigh of relief!

4) This is just super cute! So true for MI!

5) Plane tickets from Grand Rapids to Orlando:
Airtran has plane tickets direct to/from GRR to Orlando for 2 adults
- $359.80 roundtrip in July..
Now, if Disney would get on the same page and have a discount, I might be able to justify another trip to my favorite place in the whole wide world!

6) I just love this quote and think it is true for anyone out there who face a variety of life circumstances!

7) I am loving the new Karen Kingsbury book titled "The Chance."
I can't wait to get my review out on it! It is fantastic! I wouldn't expect anything less from Karen!

10) I finally lost 1 pound! YAY!
-Not the biggest weight lose feat, but I'll take it.. I'm working hard and I just am not seeing the weight loss.. If this continues, I will be making a Dr. Appt to get my thyroid levels checked!!

Never a fast runner, but always a runner

I have never been a "fast" runner, but have always loved running..
The fastest I have ever ran a mile is a 9:45! That was speedy and I haven't been able to do it again..

Photo: Killed some speed workouts on the treadmill..

I have been talking with a trainer and asking for advice on how to get my speed faster. I can usually run a few good miles before my speed starts to tank. I want to gain speed and endurance, but also be able to hold on to that for longer mileage.

So, I have been advised to run half mile repeats.. I HATE the treadmill with passion.. It is so boring  to me!!!!

So, I headed to the gym to hop on the treadmill to run a mile and then do my half mile repeats.

Here are my times..

11:06 mile
5:20 half =10:40 mile
5:06 half =10:12 mile
4:56 half =9:52 mile
1 mile cool down walk,

I am happy with these half mile repeats.. Essentially, I ran 2.5 miles in 26 minutes and that is fast for me..

I sweated like a beast and the workout went fast. I hope to be able to start running a 10:00 min mile pace soon.. I am not giving up on the treadmill speed training, despite my hatred towards the machine, I am determined to run faster.

So, my plan is to hop back on the treadmill again and do this all over..

Question: What do you do on your speed workouts?

Calling all Dreamers!

Are you a dreamer?
If you know anything about me, you know that I'm a huge dreamer. After all, I am a die hard Disney Fan and I believe that anything is possible..

When I applied to be on the God- Size Dream team, I was so excited and could not wait to see the adventure that was in-store for me.

Dream God-sized Dreams
As I have embarked on the adventure, I have had several bumps and bruises that have stopped me from dreaming, have stopped my God-Size dream posts and have really just stopped DREAMING all together..

And then... Holley facebooked a post asking us to encourage others... Wait, how can I encourage others to dream when I cannot even look at myself in the mirror, let alone dream?

And then it happened... Last night.. Someone told me I was strong and they don't even really know me.. It got me thinking ...

And then I realized in the mist of my own personal storm, I am still STRONG and I can still DREAM even when it's hard.. Life has these never ending twists and turns, some change our lives, others stop us from propelling forward and some inspire other dreams. I need to keep dreaming and not let the storms of life put me in defeat!

God Size Dreams are never ending.
God Size Dreams can inspire other dreams.
God Size Dreams are beautiful.
Godsize Dreams don't depend on what is possible.

I have learned so much from reading  "You're Made for a God- Sized Dream".

Whether your dream is large or small, the next steps you take in pursuing your dream, may change the course of history. This book is written by Holley Gerth and I feel like every time I sit down to read this, Holley Gerth is just chatting with me over coffee..

This book is very encouraging, motivating and realistic. Holley talks about the good, the hard and the best of dreaming. She knows the challenges one faces as they pursue their dream and she isn't afraid to talk about it. I love how authentic and bold Holley is. Her writing is fantastic and the book allows the reader to write their own thoughts as they start their journey. This is a book that one could read over and over again.

Maybe you don't have a dream? This book will inspire you to find one or look at your current life's passion to see where a dream is that you have not recognized.

Whether a dreamer or not, you will love the encouragement, challenge and wisdom Holley offers in this book!

This is definitely one of those books that can be read in different seasons of life and I highly recommend it!

What's in a Name?

Happy Monday!

Where did the weekend go? They always go by so fast! This past week, I finally changed my name!!! Can you believe it? We have been married for almost 3 years now and I finally did it!!

Honestly, I just did not want to go down to the Social Security office and then Secretary of State.. I hate waiting in lines and it seems like just a pain.. And so the pain begins.

Changing my name on everything takes time and I have to wait for my new Social Security card and Drivers License to come into the mail... Ugh.. It all takes time..

As I have mentioned, I have not been in a great spot emotionally, which has affected numerous areas in my life.. When life takes sudden turns that are unexpected and relationships cease, you have to figure out a way to deal. Usually, I can deal with this by running or working out, but unfortunately in this situation, things are bigger than working out..

I have been trying to read lots of positive things and notes to encourage me..
One of the recent books that has been encouraging and uplifting is this little book called Positive Life Principals. This little book remind that the challenges I face are opportunities to grow and change my response towards situations.

Winner + Goals Update

So, we have now entered the beautiful month of March! I am hoping this means SPRING! Here in the mitten, we are tired of SNOW! The sun came out today and it was wonderful.

As I look back on the month of February, I would like to review some of my goals for the year to see how I am progressing and it will help me step into March with some of these goals in mind.

Health :)

WeightI really would like to lose 25 pounds this year. I need to lose it. As much running as I have been doing, I continue to keep weight off, but I am not losing much, which is frustrating. I need to lose the weight and keep it off. Goal date: July 1, 2013

So far, I have lost 2 pounds! It's a start, very frustrating.. I keep going up and down.. At least I'm not gaining more weight..

Sugar: I love candy. It is one thing that I struggle to give up..

I have been doing really good.. I have days where I don't crave sugar and other days where I can't control my urges.. UGH.. I need to get better on this one..

Salt: I love all things salty. Crackers, chips, munchies. I am going to need to cut down this area too..
This one has been good either.. I need to stop..

dave ramsey

Pay off two large medical bills from 2012:

Done! These suckers are paid off!

Pay off 1 student loan.

Done! We paid this thing off last week!

Pay off half of Drew's Car:

This month, we made one extra large payment on it..

Start saving $ for a house:

Haven't saved a dime!

Our travel plans for this year are going to be dramatically different. Since we are planning a trip to California, none of these adventures will happen. I'm a little disappointed, but that is the price you pay for being a runner, who wants to travel the world!!!

We are currently looking for Plane Tickets to California...

{Other Stuff}

Bible: I would like to read the entire Bible in 1 year. Every year I set out to do this and every year I get halfway through, stop, give up and get discouraged. I can do this! I believe this would help me grow closer to God.

On track for this goal still. I am learning a lot and loving it!

God Size DreamerI have the opportunity to dream with other women about the dreams God has placed in our hearts. I am excited to be on this team and exploring the dream God has for my life... Even though, I have no clue what it is..

I have been exploring my God-size dream , but due to some recent events, I have had some set backs and haven't been able to even look at my dream..

Finish my 101 in 1001 goals: It ends this year! I have 49/101 in to go! Every goal not finished = $1 to St. Judes Research Hospital

Just checked off another 101 in 1001 goals! 58/101.(Over halfway). I can do this!

How are your goals coming?

Plus, I am pleased to announce my Chobani winner...
