Random Catch up!

One thing you might not know about me is....

I am secretly a Magazine ADDICT! I love reading magazines just as much as books! I get a lot of mine free, but my favorite is Good House Keeping. It is so practical for the single, married or working woman. It has good advice on home, food, fashion, makeup and it offers the best products out there for a woman! I love this magazine!
I read magazines while working out at the gym or in the car, great way to learn something and pass the time on an elliptical machine.

This week I have gotten in three workouts!

Monday- Elliptical
Tuesday- 3 mile Run
Wednesday- Swimming

I feel very accomplished in my workouts this week, but more than accomplished, I feel healthy. I can see that my body is slowing changing and I am gaining more muscle!  I am starting to feel skinny and I am seeing it in my pictures.. I have lost 5 pounds since the beginning of August! I would say that is a well accomplished goal..

One of my main health goals is to keep working towards Disney Marathon! We are booked, hoping we can get into Art of Animation, but the Little Mermaid section is full..
This weekend our "long" run is 3 miles, but I think we are going to go 5 miles because next week is 12 miles! That is going to be a killer!!

I applied to be a sweat Pink Ambassador! I would love Pink gear! I would love to inspire others! Hope to here from them soon!!

Hurricane Isaac sure is wrecking havoc with all the rain it is bringing. I know so many people who are just hoping it passes soon! ISAAC leave!!!

What has been the highlights of your week?

Running + WDW training+ Mistakes

As you know, we are running the WDW marathon in January! We are stoked! However, for my husband, this running thing is something he has never done, nor attempted.

On Saturday, our schedule said we needed to run 9 miles, which mentally I was prepared for, but physically not so much... Let me tell you several mistakes I made, ones I know better not to make, but I didn't realize how tough it was going to be..

 Mistakes:

1) I didn't properly hydrate a couple of days before. I can blame that on several things, I had a migraine on Thursday evening, was exhausted from school, did refuel and rest Friday.

2) Did not eat the right kinds of food. Friday night after the sunset, we went out to Red Robin for burgers and fries.. Not the best kind of food to run on.. Simple carbs are better so the body can break it down for fuel.

3) It was very hot out and we should have gotten up a lot earlier than we did..

All in all, I am proud we both finished. Our time wasn't swell, but at this point, we just need to get the mileage in and keep going.. Next Saturday, our run will not be so long.. I am excited for a shorter run...

What fall races are you training for?

Mental Break

After having some what of an overwhelming day of information on Thursday, Drew and I decided Friday night, we needed to see a Sunset at Holland State Park! Being near the water and on the beach is calming, it gives you a mental break from life.

Drew and I decided a walk on the Pier would be fun! We saw all kinds of craziness. People were fishing, people in swimsuits, family photos being taken by professional photographers, people just being people! I love it! It was great to see people enjoying the weather before summer comes to an end.

I've been learning a lot about marriage these past couple weeks since being home from Georgia. So often we take our spouse for granted, assume he/she will be there the next morning, but never realize in an instant, life could change without them. I'm learning how blessed I am and trying to remember to be thankful in each moment. I am trying to not compare by what I don't have, remember what I do.

Maybe you have realized in this world, it is easy to compare yourself to others and feel like you're not enough, don't have enough or don't drive the right stuff, but the truth of the matter is, at the end of the day, STUFF doesn't matter, people do. Comparison is the thief of joy, I am trying to be thankful and joyful where I have been blessed! What are you blessed with?
As Drew and I continue to wrap our minds around the idea of trying to become debt free, it seems like everyone around us is either getting an easy road out, has paid off their debt, has no debt or isn't concerned with it. It is increasingly hard to be motivated, to do the right thing and not compare ourselves to what others have.

After spending time in Georgia, I realized I really wanted a family. I have never been the type to say I wanted kids, I love working with kids, but didn't imagine I would want them myself. Obviously my time there,  changed my feelings, while we are not rushing into a family, we are frustrated that we haven't paid more off because life has thrown some twists and turns, we've had to financially manage those.

I know everything will work in its time, but for now, we are right where we're supposed to
be. I need to be thankful and grateful for what I do have and not what I DON'T have.

How are you being grateful for the simple things?

New Job, New School Year

Well, it seems that this summer has flown by and I feel like I haven't accomplished much of anything, how many are with me there???

Yesterday, I started my new job at Godfrey-Lee, and boy was I in for a day of meetings and information overload. My mind feels overwhelmed with everything I need to know and do.. I am praying that God gave me the skills to do this job.. It is after all, my FIRST BIG GIRL JOB! So if between now and the next year you thing to pray for me, I sure would appreciate it..

(  Bought this pillow case in Georgia)
I am stepping into new territory, they don't know a whole lot about me and I don't know much about them, but I am excited to see what comes from this new job. Yesterday, I learned about the rich history that my district has and it has a very unique story. I am not going to bog you down with the history, but something cool about the district is that you can virtually walk to any building and it's .6 of a mile.. Just a little over half of a mile radius! Pretty cool!

I took some pictures in my new school clothing.. Who says adults can't get new clothes for school???

Overall, the day had a lot of information to cover and by the end of the day I was feeling overwhelmed. Upon arriving home, I had a migraine, which I don't get very often.. I took a nap before Drew came home. When he arrived, I was in pretty bad shape. Again, I don't get them very often, but it was not looking good.  If you have never had a migraine, you're very lucky! They are awful! I always tell Drew I want to hit my head against the wall to make the pressure stop!!!

So, I had to give myself an air shot in the stomach, which sends medication straight through the skin and to the brain! It is pretty cool! Within 20-30 minutes, I had relief and felt like a human again..

This morning I am doing good, feeling good about having the day off and getting some things done before next week!

What are you big plans for the weekend? I got a 9 mile run on schedule for tomorrow!!

Walking through 1 John

Author, Karol Ladd is know for writing many uplifting books including The power of a Positive Mom, A Woman's Secret for Confident Living and many other books. Her books are always encouraging, inspiring and filled with messages for women. She has a gift to minister to women and does so by writing great books.

book title front

Unfailing Love is book that explores 1st John through helping women identify the truths of Gods love through his joy, strength and comfort in daily living. In our world it is so easy to get distracted by other "loves" that don't fill us, yet we keep seeking them. The more we seek "love" from other places, the more unsatisfied we are, which drives us further into the pursuit and more emptier, lonelier and unsatisfied.

This book helps women see that they the love they desire will not come from any worldy place, but from the Love of God "Unfailing Love" allows women to understand and explore Gods joy in their daily living. This book helps women embrace the truth of Gods love by being transformed by in his image and seeing ones self the way God sees us. I also loved how this "Unfailing Love" challenged me to see beyond my circumstances and allow my circumstance to not be my center focus in my life. If we could only see beyond our situation, we could see how is working behind the scenes.

As the reader walks through 1st John in this book, she will find how John's picture of God is of light love and life. The reader will see how God gives meaning to their existence, victory to overcome discouraging situations, peace and ultimate hope for difficult challenges in this world.

I love how honest Karol is about her own struggles. I also enjoy that at the end of each chapter Karol has the reader read a part of 1st John, action steps and then end in prayer which has space for answering questions.

This book would be a great Bible study for a small group.  It has twelve chapters, which can be broken up into twelve weeks.

Thank you to Harvest House Publishers for allowing me to review this book! May y

Prayers of a Stranger

I know it's not Christmas yet, but it will be right around the corner before you know it and you will be singing carols, hoping to snuggle up to a good book while watching the snowflakes land on the ground.

Emily had to leave Israel earlier than expected because her husband, Frank had fallen. Will Amanda grieve over her lost child and heal?? Will the little girl become healed?? What happens, well, You will need to read the rest of the story to find out!

Raw Skin

I've been a runner for quite some time.. I have learned what works and what doesn't. I still feel like I am always on a learning curve and can learn how to do things more efficiently, so I am a bit embarrassed to show you what happened this past weekend on a training run..

If you guessed chaffing, that is what totally happened. I usually wear body glide, but in the excitement of getting out there and wanting to get a training run with the husband, I forgot the glide. I could have totally put in at least another three miles because mentally I wanted to go full force, but I couldn't because of the raw skin that was rubbing on my thighs.. Totally ew, right? Ugh, I was so mad and quite frankly, it HURTS!!!

Least to say, I am not going to the pool at the Y, I am too embarrssed by the red dots on my legs. This evening I went running and no chaffing happened...Look at how happy I am :)

Because of the chaffing incident, I have been looking at some compression shorts.. Y are they so expensive??? I found these awesome Nike compression shorts, but they are $55!! EW!

Plus, the husband and I need to buy a pair of running shoes each.. This is going to be an expensive month in running gear.. Plus, I had to the ice the knee this evening... My knee has been bugging me.

I am looking into wanting to buy a foam roller.. Have you bought a foam roller and which type do you recommend??? I have looked at two different types, but I can't decide which is better...

Body Solid Tools BSTFR36F 36-Inch Foam Roller

This is one I am considering or this other one... Decisions.....

GoFit Massage Bar with Bob Harper Regeneration Training Manual (18-Inch,Green/Black)

Which one have you tried? Have you tried any?

I have some of the best friends in the world. I miss all of my friends. We live in different states and are in different places in our lives, but the one thing that I love about all of us, we can pick up the phone and leave right where we left off..

My friends have been the biggest blessing and have always been a strength of great encouragement, prayer and a dose of laughter.

Running {update} + Health

First, no secret that I am training for Disney Marathon.. So let me telling you how that training has been going..

Check out that bling! AHHH!!! It is so sweet! I would love to add it to my collection..   Speaking of adding it to my collection, I am looking to get a wall medal holder.. I hate how mine don't have a place.

I have not been putting in quite the mileage I did while in Georgia.  It has been a struggle to run. The longest I've done is a 6 miler. This week I have done a 3 miler and a 2 miler.  My training schedule has me at a 3 miler on Saturday and  9 miler the following saturday. I am going to try for another 6 miler this Saturday, but let me tell you what's been bringing down the running..

I have had some pain the lower left abdominal region.. I actually believe it has something to do with my ovaries. The pain has significantly intensified over the past couple of day and is very sore after any type of physical activity, which is getting me down! The longer I run, the more intense the pain..

It is getting me frustrated.. I am going to the doctor today, hopefully we will have a game plan! Until then, I am going to stay positive, keep training and put one foot in front of the other..
Heres a picture from my gym workout from the other evening.. I love to workout at the Y and then take a dip into the pool!!

Summer days are winding down and that means I am going to start my new job soon! I am so nervous! I am trying to channel all of my anxiety into working out....

I am also looking for a good foam roller... Any recommendations????

What are you trying to enjoy in these last moments of summer?

My Stubborn Heart: Book Review

If you're looking for a sweet romance book for the beach or that last minute road trip, I have the perfect book that will keep you entertained and wondering what will happen between Karen Donovan and Matt Jarreau.

I thought this book was the perfect balance between romance, reality and trusting God to bring their love story together.

Kate is a 31 year old Social worker who goes with her grandmother to help renovate her childhood home. Chapel Bluff becomes a place where Kate finds herself falling in love.
Matt Jarreua is a ex-world famous hockey player who is grieving the loss of his wife. At an attempt to avoid his family and friends, Matt does everything he can to hide out.

Upon meeting Kate, Matt is annoyed with how much she talks, but eventually finds that he is drawn to her. As Kate and Matt continue to work on her grandmothers childhood home, the two begin finding things in common and eventually enjoy one another's company. The story unfolds and the two begin to find attraction to one another. Kate is getting Matt to open up and his wife and the more Matt opens up, the more he wants to draw away from Kate..

Will the two find love? Guess you will need to read this story to find out.. I give this a 4/5! This book was a great a little slow in some parts, but overall, very well done. I look forward to reading another book by Becky Wade soon!

I recieved this book from Bethany House Publishers. I was not compensated for a positive  review

Vacation continue: Great Wolf Lodge

Great Wolf Lodge is the first indoor Water Park in Traverse City, Michigan.  It has over 225,000 gallons of water, eight slides, activity pool, lazy river and a giant four story tree house with a 1000 gallon bucket tip of water every 5 minutes!

Did you know that the Waterpark is 84 degrees on the inside all year round? They have an outdoor pool too, a kid spa, story time at the clock tower, an arcade and even a junior life guard program for kids. Great Wolf Lodge is a place for the entire family!

Drew is reading a big book from a far away land! He is discovering what the lodge is all about.. What a cutie! I love that he joins in on the fun with me!
I shall call him "grumpy tree" and he is grumpy.. I thought I would do a "grumpy" pose too..

This here is Wiley, the wolf.. He is a nice wolf though.. Check out his handsome green eyes... He was looking for a kiss! I wanted his shiny penny!!! lol..

This is "Sprinkles" and he is the mascot for the "Bear Paw" shop! He is so cute, I wanted my picture with him to remember all the delicious treats we ate on vacation!

We love all the sweets at the "Bear Paw." It has the most yummy backed pastries, ice cream and more than 20 flavors of Fudge! Can you say yum?

Have you ever been to a waterpark resort? What is your favorite?

Vacation Continues

We arrived in Traverse City, which is so beautiful if you have never been.. I highly recommend it! Sleeping Bear Dunes is awesome! On my summer bucket list and 101 in 1001 list was go to to a Casino.. We did just that!

First, we went to dinner at a Mexican restaurant called "La Sehorita." Drew loves to eat here!! It has delicious Mexican food!! We went there first..

I got an awesome, yummy margarita!

They had a drink "special" and it was only $2! My drink was cheaper than my husbands Soda! We were celebrating our Anniversary dinner, so a drink was okay..

Next, we went to Turtle Creek Casino! We walked in and immediately I could smell smoke. Upon entering we were carded right away.. Apparently I don't look 21 years of age even though I am 26.. Hehehe..

We hit the slot machines and I was doing terrible for a while, but then I hit the penny slot machine and started doing good. We didn't win any $$, but we had a good time. .I am glad I did it and I am glad we didn't win money.. Had we won some $$, I could see how addicting it could be..

I understand Dave Ramsey when he says " The rich get richer and the poor get poorer." Putting money in the slot machines are addicting and pulling the lever is even more addicting.

Celebrating two years with the best husband ever! He is my best friend and I love him so much!! I am so thankful for him and God reminds me of my love for Drew, daily!

Have you ever gambled and won?? When did you go to a Casino?

Day 1 Vacation: Paris, MI

Since being in Georgia, Drew and I have not been able to celebrate our 2 year Anniversary. We went on a mini- road trip, which allowed us to relax, rejuvenate and come back with a fresh perspective.

I thought I would re-cap our great vacation and wonderful memories. Our first stop as we headed to Traverse City, Michigan was to take a detour to Paris, Michigan!

Lets go for a little history lesson about Paris Park. In the 1930's, Paris Park was used as temporary shelter for WPA government workers. They live in bunkhouses, which were torn down, but the metal frames were stored in a barn.

Several decades passed and High School Students from Osceola Career Center discover the metal and decided it would be good material for a project. The students made a replica of the Eiffel Tower in Paris Park. It is 20 feet tall and so cool!! This might be the closest I get to the Eiffel!
I love Drew, he is so adventerous and ready to stop anywhere.. We love to off road it!
A little romance in front of the famous tower.. They say it's the most romantic city in the world.... A little "oui, oui"

The Eiffel Tower located in the Paris Park is near a fish hatchery. On the other side of the hatchery is a carving of a Chippewa Chief. We thought he was pretty cool! At first we couldn't find him, but then we realized he was across the way!

I wanna be an Indian Chief too!!
Drew are you praying with the chief?

Where is the coolest off the road tourist stop you've made??
