Three Besties Minus 1

I love these two girls, we are missing one, Andrea... It's funny how God has taken each of us on a different life journey. It was great to be able to spend time with them on Memorial Day!

It's funny how we can be in separate states, spend years apart and walk into a room and pick up the conversation right where we left off... Bunch of sisterchicks we are...I love them!

Andrea could not be with us today, but she was in our thoughts! The four sisterchicks!! We were actually looking at pictures of Miles this morning and totally thinking of her!!!

Andrea's husband, Timothy is in the Navy. We are so proud of his service to our country!  We are thankful for their sacrafices and dedication to our country!

On this day, may you remember those who have given their lives for our freedom, those who have gone before us  and those who continue to enrich our lives today. Blessings for a wonderful day!

No Mickey, need a car, Pedicures, graduation and faith

The weekend did not start on a good note, so I am trying to remain positive. We got some bad news about our little bug, Gus. He is driveable for a while, but will not sustain much of a longer life for us. He has been our saving grace in not having to have a second car-payment. I am not thrilled about getting a second car payment, but I think it is what we are going to have to do..  Say goodbye to getting out of debt faster... EW. I hate student loans!

If you know anyone getting rid of a car or your grandma is getting rid of hers, let me know. We need something reliable and something that we don't have to throw a lot of money into. I wish we could get away with one car, but that isn't doable when Drew works second shift and I work first on the opposite sides of town.

Also, I think this means we will not be going to Disney in August. Unless by some miracle, we will be cancelling our trip, which is frustrating. We haven't done anything this past year, we have been slowly saving for this trip, not going anywhere or spending extra money to be able to do this and now we won't be able to go.. I am sad.

Since I was in a sour mood yesterday, my sister came over and gave me a pedicure.. She is really good at this stuff.

We also had a good time scrapbooking and laughing. That helped turn my spirits around. We ate a bunch of junk food too. .I love twizzlers. .They are my go to food when life sucks!
This morning I went on a crappy 5 mile run. At least my runs are consistently terrible. My knees hurts and I just don't have the energy to run. I felt like I was training all over again for RB... It wasn't swell. At least I did it and it's one step closer in training for a marathon.

Also, Drew's cousin, Matthew graduated from High School this week! I had the honor of being able to attend. We are very proud of him and his accomplishments!

Although the end of the week has not shaped into a great weekend, I am trying to remain positive and hopeful that God is in control. If he leads us to it, he is going to lead us through it. Getting angry and frustrated isn't solving anything. Trusting him and having faith is the only thing that will keep my eyes fixed on him!

When has there been a trial in your life and how did you get through?

Stress Points

Thursday! Whew, I've made it. What a week this has been... Are you all with me on that? The weather here has been so warm and humid,  80 degrees is crazy for this time of year!

Anyways, Drew called me at work and told me we were having some car trouble with the bug.. Never buy a beetle. It may look cute, but it has lots of problems and is very expensive to fix. We hate to buy another car because we don't really want the debt... Frustrating...

On another note, I have been reading this great book called Stress Points; Thriving through your 20's in a Decade of Drama
This book is WONDERFUL! I have done a lot of book reviews, but this book has been by far one of the best I have ever read. Maybe it's the season of life I am in, but this book hits many major areas that I currently face.  Career, self-image, dating, friendship, money, spiritual maturity, stepping out on your own and making a difference are just many of the topics found in this awesome book/ devotional. This book is very interactive, but doesn't require a lot of time. Each section has three stories from different girls lives journey, which we can all relate too and also has great journaling space. My Book is all highlighted up, written in and just torn apart..  Sarah Francis Martin even has vlogs after each chapter which are found here. I love this book! I love the prayers, scriptures and topics! This book is so encouraging that I cannot wait to read it on my lunch break everyday! You should check it out!

This evening I am going to a highschool graduation. I am sure I will be all teary eyed and inspired.. I love good words of wisdom!

What have been the stress points of your week?

Memory Lane Main Street USA

I have deleted and re-typed this post several times.  The beautiful weather has made me want to be outside more than being stuck on my computer. I think we can all agree with that.. Summer makes us want to be outside more and less at work.. I know I feel that way...

Get ready to be shocked....

I RODE my bike to the Library!!! I know, weird right??? I hate bike riding, but I am trying to be more flexible and open-minded in cross training! It wasn't that bad and I saved gas.

Last night, we went to the YMCA to go in the pool and hot tub. Upon getting in the hot tub, we were KICKED out.. A little girl POOPED in the pool. I can't even being to imagine the embarrassment her mom must have felt.

Since we got kicked out of the Y, Drew and I went to Best Buy, which led us to watching the Disney World Full House Episode. Don't ask me how this happened...  This led us to watching our Disney World Home video's which are hilarious! We watched "Wishes" and I wanted to fly to Disney World right away!! Do you take videos on your vacations?

This made me miss Disney and made me excited for our upcoming plans...

Plus, I two big announcements coming to my blog!! Keep your eyes and ears open!!

Bike riding? Not for me..

Seriously, where did the weekend go and how come it's Monday already?  I cannot believe how stinking fast the weekends go!!  Speaking of weekends, let me speed you up on our Saturday bike ride.

My husband is a huge fan of biking. He loves to bike. If it was up to him, we would bike for hours. I, however, am not a biker! I feel like biking is a waste of time and I don't see benefits in biking. I know it's great cross training, blah.. blah.. blah.... I am not a huge fan of the motion nor sitting forward... Biking is just not my THING!

My husband convinced me into a 13.6 mile bike ride, which included ice cream. I will do anything for Ice Cream!!! I can especially tell this past week, I have gained some weight. Usually, I am very good, but I have been eating so unhealthy.. I hate craving bad foods, but last week it was really bad!! How many of you are with me there???

This week I am striving better to eat healthier and stay on my points! I am hoping for a weight loss.
And then we saw this.....
My heart did a major happy dance.. Does anyone know where these are at????
How was your weekend??

Hot Date!

Happy Saturday! Hope you are enjoying a wonderful weekend. The weather is wonderful! We are enjoying temps in  the 80's! Yesterday, I had one of those days where even a drink wouldn't cure my frustration.. I told Drew we were going on a hot date...  I needed to get out.. Do you ever have one of those weeks???

First, we headed out to a nice relaxing dinner at Branns Steak House. I was really craving Chili's, but Holland doesn't have one..  :( sad day.. After dinner, we decided to head to the beach. We went out to Tunnel Park and enjoyed a beautiful sunset! We caught it just in time too...
It was nice to just watch the sun go down and be in God's creation.

Last summer we never made it out to the beach, which is so sad.. It was a crazy busy summer and although this summer has some crazy challenges ahead, I know we will get out to the beach a lot more..  Drew and I love the beach.. If we ever move, it needs to be near water.

Drew and I had a wonderful time enjoying each others company and making summer plans! I am excited about what is to come  and trying to enjoy each step of the way.

This weather is making me so anxious for summer!! I cannot wait for warmer weather and evening runs... I am excited about grilled food and lots of fruit! Summer is just around the corner!

What are your plans for the summer?

My apologies

Happy Friday! I didn't believe I would make to the weekend! This has been a very busy week...

First, let me apologize for not being present on the blog this week... The kids at school are driving me kinda nutty.. It's getting to the end of the year and they sure are testing the waters. I find myself getting impatient at times and bringing the stress home, which is somewhat unusual for me.. They are especially very whinny.. I hope next week is better for them and me.

Second, we have just had some crazy personal stuff going on in our lives... It's crazy how one moment, phone call or event can change the course of life... We have had a couple of decisions and now they are laid in stone.... That can be great and difficult...

Third, my body is just exhausted. I tried going 2.5 miles the other day, but my legs were not having it! They are so sore! I am hoping I will gain some momentum next week!

The weather has been beautiful here.. No complaints! Seventy and Eighty degree temperatures are wonderful! I am so excited for summer weather...

Thanks for your patience! I hope to have a weekend of rest and be more present next week!

This is how I feel....

Happy Weekend!

What are you doing this weekend?

Wish you were Here....

I had the opportunity to review "Wish You Were Here" written by Beth Vogt. How many of you like to read books about falling in love or getting married??

I can admit that I love fairy tales and happy endings. Don't we all?

Allison Denman is your typical average girl who has a great job, is going to marry the man of her dreams in a beautiful wedding dress that she hates. Every one else loves the dress, but
Allison. To make things worse, she and the groom's brother, Daniel kiss five days before her wedding. That is some major DRAMA!!!

Wish You Were Here

As Allison begins to sort through her feelings, she has to make a decision; should she marry Seth or not? As the story begins to unfold, the reader is left guessing and wondering what the author will do next.  Does Allison marry Seth or does she leave him at the Altar? The only answer is in reading the book. I promise, you won't be disappointed!

Beth Vogt does a great job in character development with all characters in this book. I felt like I knew the characters and was apart of this town. The author does a great job in intertwining God in to the story. If you like romance with a dose of spirituality, you will like this book. It is the perfect balance between God and a fairy tale.

This was a quick read. I read it in one sitting.. Very entertaining and easy to read.. Great summer book!

I would like to thank Howard Books for the opportunity to read and review this book. I was under no obligation to give a positive review. The opinions expressed here are my own.

Bachelorette, Emily!!

If you have watched previous seasons of the Bachelor, you know that Brad Womack fell in love with Emily Maynard, a sweet southern woman, with a little girl, Rickie. Well, you probably heard things didn't work out with them..

Emily is on the quest to find love again.. She is on this SEASON of the Bachelorette!! I couldn't be more thrilled!!

Something really sweet happened last summer when my husband and I, were on our anniversary in Disney World!!

While in Disney World, I spotted Emily and Rickie. When Drew and I were walking past the Teacup ride, I passed her and did a double take because I wasn't sure, but I thought it was her because of her white teeth.  Drew told me to go check and see if it really was her, especially since she was with a Disney worker... We had to find out if it was her.

We watched her get on the Teacups and then I knew it was definately her. I didn't want to go up to a stranger, especially if I was completely wrong.. That would have been AWKWARD..
Emily and Rickie on Tea Cups

After she got off the ride, I went up to her asked if she was "Emily from the Bachelor" and wondering if she would take a picture... She said "yes" and I was star struck... Drew and I have talked about famous people being at Disney, but I have never seen someone, until this trip.

In person, she is very sweet, beautiful and so kind... It was so cool to finally meet someone famous and I was one of her biggest fans!

I am rooting for her and hope she finds the Love of her life this season! Stay tune to ABC on Monday nights this summer!

Go Em!!

Have you ever met someone famous?

What I've Learned from RUNNING

What I've Learned....

I am writing this post largely for me. I have learned a lot about running, but a lot about myself. Running is more mental than physical. Yes, there are physical elements that definitely need to be there, but your mindset is so important.

1) If you are going to run a long event, training is #1 PRIORITY. You can't just slack on it. If you really want to go after a long race, you have to put in the training! No one wants to get out there and do horrible on race day. Remember to put in the training! You will get out of it, what you put into it!!

2) Chafing- EW.  It happens..  The length of your race will determine the degree of chafing.. Using Body Glide or vasoline will keep your skin from rubbing against itself. Make sure you load it on .. I have chaffed every single long run.. My first long race, I HAD no IDEA about body glide... Now, I can't run without it... I usually chaf horrible in my thighs..

3) Prep your clothing and gear the NIGHT before. Depending on the race, it may require you get up earlier than your usual day. Having your gear ready the night before will ease anxiety in the morning. Plus, you won't forget that all important GU or Jelly Beans..

If you run with an IPOD, make sure it's charged and working properly before race day..

4) Get fitted for SHOES! If you know nothing about the way your foot strikes the ground, or about running shoes, go to your local running store and get FITTED.. You don't have to buy the $150 pair they try to sell you. You can always get fitted and purchase online. Sometimes I look for an older model of the shoe. Generally, when you get fitted you have a couple of options on the best shoes for you.. Don't buy an expensive pair of shoes without knowing why you're paying so much $$$$.. Get INFORMED!  Also, when you buy a new pair  of shoes, break them in before you run in them. NEVER RUN ON A NEW PAIR OF SHOES RACE DAY!

5) Always add an emergency contact on your race bib. On the back side of your Bib if a place isn't provided, write down an emergency contact, any prescription drugs you presently take and allergies. You never want an EMERGENCY to happen, but it is better to be safe.. I always put two contacts down. .In case my husband cannot be reached, my parents number is on there.. You just never know..  Case in point: I have seen several people pulled off the course for injuries both minor and serious.

6) Set goals. Goals are meant to be achieved. They can only be achieved when set. I think people wander through life because they don't set goals.  When you set goals, make sure they are timely and realistic.  If you set unrealistic goals, you're likely to fail and give up.  I always have two goals when running; finish and have fun.

7) Don't COMPARE!  Would I love to run a 7 minute mile? Yes, absolutely! Is that realistic for me? Probably not! Am I okay with that? Yes! Do I want to improve? Totally. I become very discouraged when I realize that I am not the fastest runner on the block.. I also realize that my body is completely different. I have 20 more pounds I would like to get rid of. I have a serious medical condition. I am LUCKY to be able to RUN! Do I get discouraged? All the time. But comparing makes running not fun.. I want it to be fun!

8) FOCUS ON ONE MILE AT A TIME! Running takes a mental toughness that is far beyond any other sport. You have to let your mind wander and you have to keep it focused. You have to be in the game and have to be in the moment. Focusing on the miles in front of you, will not allow you to celebrate what you have done behind you.. I always tell people running is in your HEAD.. You got to build mental STAMINA!

9) Be around people who will motivate and support you! Who wants to be around people who aren't pushing you further??? All of you in the blog world are so motivating! I am very thankful for you! You push me!

10) Figure out why you run....

I started running to lose weight....

25k (2006)

25k (2008)

25k (2009)

I continue to run for health & weight loss but my purpose is to support the purple! I run for those who can't! Fight EPILEPSY!

Why do you run?

15.5 miles completed!

This morning I woke up at 4:00 am and race didn't start till 8:20 am, but I honestly could not sleep.... My stomach had such anxiety.. The other thing, I had no voice when I woke up either...   I really wasn't sure if this was going to end well or not for me.....

Here's the other thing you might not know about me, I have Epilepsy. I was diagnosed a year ago and I thought it was the end of running, but God had a different journey.. I think he is still taking me on that journey. This race, marks 9 months of being seizure FREE!

Despite not feeling great this morning, I still told myself I would finish this. I have trained. I am ready and I can do this!!!

My two goals were: 1) Finish Race
                                        2) Get an official time which has to 3:30 minutes.

With my conditions of not feeling good, I thought both were obtainable goals... But I didnt realize......

I WOULD PR (Personal Record) the race!!!!!!!

Honestly, it was not me, totally God. I give him the glory.. I kept quoting scripture and praying that God would work everything together for Good!! He did it in me!!

I couldn't have done it, without this guy!!

He ran his first 5k today!!!

He then showered, drove to the halfway point of my race to cheer me on! He was the only one there! I promised I would see him at the finish line! I intended to keep that promise.

Halfway Point!!

Still smiling ! I had to finish!

As I approached the finish line, I gunned it! I gave all my body had left.. I was not going to just skooch on through to the finish line, I was going to FINISH IT STRONG!!

I kicked that girl out of the water (in blue) and they even announced it.. According to my watch and my chip time, I PR my old time by 15 minutes!!!!

I love this guy!!!

                             And these girls!

Thank you to all of my blog readers who have encouraged me, prayed for me and inspired me to complete this! Without you, this journey wouldn't have been so sweet!!

Have a great weekend! I know we will be celebrating!!!

It's here!!

The night of anticipation has finally arrived!!! I am a HUGE bundle of nerves to say the least! I really can't think about anything, other than running for tomorrow!
Honestly, I am still very drugged up!! Whatever is going on in my body, it hasn't left, but that WILL not STOP me from doing THIS!!

If anything, I know God will carry me through!!! I am confident in HIM!! I will rest EASY know that he is going to get me through it!!!

My husband is running his FIRST 5k tomorrow and I extremely proud of him! He is taking steps to lead a more healthy life and I think that is just AWESOME! I am very proud of him and cannot wait to cheer him on. .Good thing his race is before me :)

Maybe we can talk him into a marathon????

I can't wait to post pictures tomorrow. I am sure I will be dead tired. .I can't promise them tomorrow, but hopefully by SUNDAY!! Here is my current medal collection.. I hope to add another one after tomorrow!!

Please keep me in your prayers..

Each mile, I am focusing on a different person and praying for them.. I know this will help me pass the time, lift up other people and keep me positive!!!

Thanks for all of your encouragment and support!!! I couldn't do this without dedicated "friends" like you!!!

Just gonna do it!

If you have followed me since January, you know that I have been training for the
25k (15.5 miles) Riverbank Run.  In Michigan, it's not uncommon to run and train in snow or ice.
The past two weeks, I have been feeling very ick! My throat has been on fire and my ears have been super painful, so I haven't done any long runs. The doctor said it was viral and would need to take its course. Earlier this week, I was feeling like I might not run the race..

                                                          But then....

                                                                 I saw.....

                                                                             The bling!!!!

The bling got me all excited, so I ran 5 miles (1/3 of the race) yesterday.. The run wasn't great, but I did it... I have come to the conclusion I will run the race

I might not run a great time, but I will FINISH! I will have this medal in hand!! Whether I am running, walking, crawling or being dragged across the finish line, I will finish.. I am excited for SATURDAY!

Bring it on!

Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.

Every Girls Dream

Happy Monday! I am hoping you all had well rested and relaxing weekend. Now, it is time to get back in the swing of things.

This weekend, I celebrated my birthday and had such a AWESOME time with my husband. He took me SHOPPPING!!! Can you believe it??? Most men hate shopping and my husband is the first to admit, he hates the dressing room.. If I need to try something on,  it usually means we won't get in and out real easy.. This past weekend, he spent at least 4 hours watching me chang in and out of clothes... It was so FUN!!

My favorite piece, the ROMPER! This is so cozy and I can't wait to where it this summer!

Three new dresses!!! The black one has cute pockets on the side.. I love that!!!

This orange dress is a cute sun dress and will be good for church or a day on the beach..
I liked this yellow and orange dress for various reasons, but it is very professional! I think it will go with a lot of my cute cover up sweaters...

This shirt is very cute with a black shirt or black pants. Comfortable, dressy and fun!

Plus, I bought a new skirt and a pair of jeans! I love new clothes!!! It's every girls dream to shopping with her husband and just enjoy it! I had the best time with him! I will remember this birthday forever.

What is your favorite store to buy clothes?

25k on the Fence

Well, I was hoping today I would be able to write to you about a long run, but I can see that isn't going to happen.

In church, my voice became very hoarse and whatever is going on, my body is not healing as quickly as I had planned. My throat continues to be painful at times and my ears are killing.. I still am not sure if I believe this is a viral thing.... Sigh..

Either way, the 25k is on the fence right now. I haven't got a long run in two weeks now, which makes me very nervous. I did run 3 miles earlier this week and that was very painful.  I bought a new pair of shoes, I don't like the idea of running in new shoes that haven't been broke in yet..

I bought a pair of Saucony's Pro Grid shoes. They feel very comfortable and very supportive. I can tell a major difference from my old pair.. I am excited to more mileage on these shoes, which hopefully will happen SOON!

For now, 15 mile race hangs in LIMBO...

Keep me in prayers as I anxiously try to make the best decision for my body.. Frustrated for training hard and being so close to not finish..

I will update you on birthday Monday or Tuesday.. I still off celebrating!
Happy Sunday!

From my students!

I love my students and the people I work with! They are so AWESOME and go all out for Birthdays!

Storm turns 26!

Well, it's official, I am 26 years old today! I can't believe it! I feel OLD! I know everyone says that I am young and look young, but I can't believe that I am 26.. Where did the years go?? How did they go so fast??

Well, being a Disney lover, I decided to make some fun Disney cupcakes to celebrate my birthday! These are very similar to the ones at the Disney Parks..

Well, I made 32 of these little guys and now I gotta transport them to school.. I have no idea how that is going to happen!

Hope my school staff eat them.. I think they are super cute!

Top 2 Things to Accomplish in my 26th Year!

1)Run 26.2 miles! Marathon time!
2) Finish Wedding Scrapbook!

The Secret Life of a Fool

Were you a preachers kid? Do you anyone who is not your typical Preacher's Kid? If you haven't met one, let me introduce you to Andrew Palau, author of The Secret Life of a Fool.

He is not your typical person, but a man full of character who writes the rawness of wanting to be accepted, but instead finds himself rejected and in the pit of despair. This book has major guts and speaks of some dark moments in Andrew's life.

The Secret Life of a Fool: One Man's Raw Journey from Shame to Grace

As a young man, Andrew made mistakes using drugs, drinking, being kicked out out places and even kicking a homeless man. But this story is more than just a man making mistakes, this book is about hitting rock bottom and God offering grace. This book is for those people in your life who think God will never love them for the "bad" things they have done. This book is for anyone who thinks God has given up on them.

This is a quick read. It is well written, interesting and an encouraging testimony to the unreachable.  I highly recommend this for teenage boys or for those who are graduating. This book has a lot of wisdom, but exposes how sin has a way of catching up with one.

Thank you Worthy Publishers for allowing me to review this book! I was not required to give a positive review for this book.

Under the Weather, River Bank in Jepoardy

I apologize for my lack of availability on the blog world. Monday, I spent two hours in the Urgent Care Facility to find out that I have a viral infection. My lymph nodes are swollen, my throat feels like its on fire and my ears are very painful at times. I was talking with the Doctor and pleading for antibiotics..

RiverBank (25k) race is next Saturday (May 12) and I want to run it...I have been training for this race since JANUARY!!!!

The doctor refused to prescribe antibiotics even when I told him how long I had been training and begged for something.. He REFUSED! Alright, I am just going to be real here, how many doctors refuse to prescribe drugs to their patients??? I don't know many, especially since they get a kickback on the meds.... REALLY??? UGH!!

He told me this viral infection is lasting about two weeks in patients and that with plenty of fluids and rest, it would be gone in no time...

Now, I wait and see... While I be able to run River Bank??? Time will tell the story..

A healthy body is more important than a race, but really?? I've come this far...
