I want to wish you all a Happy Halloween! I have never been a fan of this holiday. I do not understand what is so great about dressing up in a costume.. Never really got it, but for those of you who love it, enjoy it!

Christmas Singing

I love Christmas novels, but am not a huge fan of reading Amish romance novels. I have never been a big fan. I had the opportunity to read The Christmas Singing by Cindy Woodsmall. I selected the book, so It would get me in the holiday spirit.

The two main Characters are Mattie in Gideon who grew up as best friends and eventually got engaged to one another. One evening Mattie goes home to surprised Gideon, but is completely suprised herself and finds him with another woman so they end their engagment.

Mattie completely broken hearted moves to Ohio to live with her brother and his family. This leads her to opening up a baking store and she becomes very focused on creating a career out of her passion. However, her store catches on fire which forces her to think about moving back home. Returning home, means facing her fears from her past and seeing Gideon again. Will she be able to move forward? or Will it lead her to more heartbreak?

This book gets a 3/5 for me.. Not a big fan of the Amish story line..

I received this complimentary copy from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group through their Blogging for Books program for my honest review.

Prayers for the Father-in-Law Storm

As of Nov 4, Drew's Dad will no longer have a job.. Prayers for him.. This economy has been tough on many people, but is especially harder on the older generations because they do not have many options in starting a new career.

Mr. & Mrs. Storm play Parents Part 1

Drew and I have been babysitting for a family of two kids, Sidney, age 4 and Connor, age 6. Their parents asked us to watch Sidney and Connor while they took a business/ vacation to Las Vegas.

We gladly accepted the challenge and let me tell you, kids are a challenge...WOW!

Today, we decided to take the kids to Zoo Boo, which is when our local zoo allows kids to come dressed up in Halloween costumes and Trick or Treat. The place was packed!!! The kids had a good time.

Sid was a kitty cat... It was kind of an odd costume and Connor was a knight. The kids loved being dressed up in their costumes.. I think we all wish we were something different than what we are, from time to time.
Drew was a good sport. He led the gang in and around the zoo....
This picture has a funny story behind it.. I asked Sid to get her picture with the big black spider and she said "no." I told her I wasn't afraid of the spider and I wanted my picture by it.. Later on in the day she got the opportunity to pick any kind of tattoo she wanted ranging from cute sparkly butterflies to lady bugs, but she decided on picking a black spider..... As adults, we have such influence on children....

All in all, things are going well with these children.. Home we can continue this rhythm.

Secrets for Confident Living

Lets be honest, in our culture women lack a confidence because the media portrays us in a image that we will never live up to. We constantly compare ourselves to others because we feel inadequate. Karol Ladd, author of "A woman's secret for confident living" challenges us to a different view of the way God made us uniquely. Embraced in biblical truth, this book offers hope, confidence and practical ways to be the confident woman God has called each of us to be.

The confidence that we need doesn't come from the outside, but rather from the inside. I have struggled with a lack of confidence in who I am, but confidence is skin deep, not just appearance. Overtime, appearances will change, but if your heart isn't grounded in a deep relationship of knowing Christ, than you will always lack confidence. When you know who's child you are, your purpose, beauty and why you were created, you will walk with confidence because you know why you were created.  The book includes questions, prayers and practical advice about becoming a confident woman in Christ.

Karol Ladd has written over 20 books and is such a great author. This book is rooted in the knowledge of Colossians  and will help you in your journey to become a confident woman!

Thanks to Harvest House for allowing to me to review this book.  They did not compensate me for a positive review.

Sugar rush = happy Mr. Storm

I love to bake.

Drew loves to eat my baked goods.

Let's be real.. I love to eat the batter..

This evening I made a batch of Halloween cupcakes..

I have never been one much for Halloween, but  I wanted to do something in order to be festive.
These are caked with frosting and sprinkles.. Yum, if you want a sugar rush!

Letting go of Worry

As a woman, worry comes very naturally, but God doesn't intend for us to worry about finances, jobs, health, relationships, money, children or anything else. I especially have been worried about health and finances. If I am honest, I think one in my situation would be worried too, but God is the one who will provide as long as  I trust.

In Dr. Linda Mintle's book "Letting go of Worry God's Plan for Finding Peace and Contentment", she gives practical advice on topics including health, job, money, relationships and offers how to have peace in these areas.

The chapter I related to was on money and how we often worry about not having enough or having the un-planned expense. I am a huge finanical planner.. When I say I am a planner, I have specific money budgeted for emergencies, but if you have been reading my blog the last three months, you know that my emergency fund has been depleted and in the process of trying to be re-build, it has been depleted again, again and again. Even being a planner cannot stop the worry. Instead of worrying, I need to trust that God will provide, I have done the best I can and everything else will just work out because worry does not add any days to my life.

One other chapter I enjoyed was about the physical effects worry has on our bodies physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. In this chapter, Linda gives many practical tips on how to relive and reduce worry on our physical bodies. I was amazed to read how much worry can physically affect so many parts of our bodies. This book is a great resource to have on your book shelf.

You don't need to read it cover to cover, ( I recommend doing so) but it is a great reference and has many chapters that you could pick up and read in how to deal with worry in certain situations. To find out more about Dr. Linda Mintle go here.

Enjoy a life free from worry and learn to embrace the challenges we face.

This book was provided to me from Harvest House Publishers. They did not compensate me for a positive review.

Its that time of the year..

I have this obsession with Christmas books. I just love reading them and it doesn't matter what time of the year it is, but I have this obsession with one author, Donna Van Liere. You may recognize her as the author of "The Christmas Shoes", but did you know that she has also written "The Christmas Blessing, The Christmas Hope, The Christmas Promise and The Christmas Secret." All which are excellent books.. They always get you in the mood for Christmas. Plus, the covers of each book are beautiful and make you feel like you are in a Christmas wonder land.
Gretchen Daniels is the mother of two children and is trying to build a new life while providing stability. Melissa, their next door neighbor is someone who keeps to herself. Melissa is out one day when the land lord shows up and leaves a message with Gretchen (the neighbor). Melissa's mother has passed away and needs to clean out the place. Gretchen offers assistance in this process. As the two began to clean, a not is discovered which changes everything.

This is a quick read and can be read in one sitting. This book will put you in the holiday spirit!

Thank you Thomas Nelson for proving me a copy of this book!
