Packing up Adolescence and Trading in for a more Sophisticated Storm

I will be the first to admit.....

being an adult...... STINKS sometimes...

Well, I am sad to announce the end of my Volkswagen Beetle, Gus.... The other day I was driving him and when I went to accelerate, he would not go.. Instead, he made this awful sound..  I continued to try and get him to accelerate and again, he made a horrible sound, the kind that sounds like the engine is about to light on fire.. The sound was awful and it made me feel scared. .Usually, I don't feel scared driving him, but this was a sound like no other.. I believe his transmission is starting to go... Either way, he is no longer a safe car and I am forced to purchase a new car. He is no longer worth being nickled and Dimed to fix.. It is sad. .He was my first car. I have had him for six years. He was the second Volkswagen Beetle to hit Grand Rapids. He was actually purchased on a credit card because Beetle's were so popular, you could only purchase them that way. He is a 98 and has had some good years behind him. 14 years later, he is still kicking, but not with as much enthusiasm.. I am a very sad owner today.... We have spent a lot of great years together...

Did you know I should have died with him on 94? Yep, Valentines Day weekend I was driving home and got into a horrible accident with black Ice.. Did a couple of 360's into the high way wall.. .Good ole Gus, kept us safe...

I will now be selling him and purchasing a big girl car.. I am going to be honest here and say ...

USED CARS ARE EXPENSIVE!!!!! It is unreal!!!!! We are wanting to spend about $10 grand and we are having a difficult time finding a car with reasonable miles and a price that fits our budget. We are looking for a car that has under 70,000 miles... Are we being un realistic for that price?? I am unsure, but we purchased my bug at 5 grand with 70,000 miles six years ago. Unfortunately, with cash for clunkers, we aren't having much luck finding decent deals on used cars...
Actually, we are considering a mini-van... Now before you get all these crazy ideas in your head about why we are considering a mini- van, let me set the record straight..

Mini -vans are relatively cheap right now. We found one with 62,000 miles for $8,990 and that fits our budget.. It is a 2006... We are hoping to test drive Monday....  As much as we would like an SUV, they are very expensive, as compared to mini- vans. Let me be clear, we are not purchasing this with the intent to have kids. Actually, it is the exact opposite. We are purchasing it for dependability and affordability, while also hoping to get some longevity out of it..

With that said, this is not our final decision. We are pursing cars too, but we are not having much luck with our price point and mileage.

Either way, I packing up my old self and trading it for something more sophisticated, which is very scary to me. I am not ready to be an adult....

If you have opinions about cars we should be looking at, I would love to hear them.
