Art is the eye of the beholder

Drew has been begging me to to head down to Art Prize the last two weeks. Now, if you are not familiar with ArtPrize, it is a place where artists can display their art work in Grand Rapids, Michigan in hopes of winning a quarter of a million dollars. To find out more info, check out http://www.artprize.org/

For starters, this penny is actually made of 84,000 pennies. The details are amazing. The woman who made this penny is a single mother, who worked 12-14hr days on this piece. Her two children glued the last two pennies on. In order for this piece to be as a cool as it is, she needed just the right shades of pennies too.. It was a stunning piece.. This picture doesnt do justice to this amazing piece.

Water Prize was created by some individuals at Mars Hill Church. Waterprize is on a mission to provide resources and attention to the number one problem of today, the global lack of clean water. Approximately 1 out of every 6 people do not have access to clean, safe drinking water. This is not Okay. In a creative, compelling, fun way Waterprize exists to provide attention and resources for those in need. Personally, I loved this piece and the attention it was recieving.

This was a picture I took of downtown Grand Rapids... Beautiful fall afternoon.

This piece entitled "A Matter of Time" is an extradionary piece of artwork. This sculpture, 13 feet in diameter, "A Matter Of Time" explores man's relationship to the earth. Think of this sculpture as a clock. At the 12:00 hour is bird life, representing the sky. At 3:00 and 9:00 are mammals, representing the land. Working downwards toward the 6:00 hour, through reptiles, amphibians, fish and crustaceans we arrive at the sea turtle that represents the oceans. Man's position is the timepiece, holding the fate of the planet in his hand.

"Calvary"- A 300 ft pencil drawing done by a #2 ! Amazing. The picture does not do justice to this detailed drawing.  It covers a 30 foot wall! Imagine that? Amazing!

These pieces are a few of very amazing, talents art-work and I am so blessed to live in Grand Rapids where we can freely enjoy the beauty of Art. It was a great day!
